Frequently Asked Questions
Who does
House of Hope serve?
House of Hope provides temporary, structured housing for pregnant and parenting women between ages 18 and 24, and
their children. All services available for the women and children who stay at House of Hope are free of
charge.
How long do your residents stay at House of Hope?
Length of stay depends on each resident’s
individual needs. Residents and their children can stay at House of Hope for up to 18 months.
Where do your residents come from?
Our residents come from a variety of different referral sources. Typically,
other social service agencies such as St. Vincent de Paul, The Salvation Army, Family Services, Child Protection Services
or Probation & Parole make referrals. Many of our residents are also referred by families who previously stayed
at House of Hope.
What
kind of personal direction is available for the women staying at House of Hope?
We focus on three main areas of development; parenting, education and employment. Our
Life Skills Coordinator, Case Worker and Support Staff work on a personalized program for each resident. This
plan is devised to help the women with day-to-day skills such as; developing routines, creating quick nutritious meals, personal
hygiene and housekeeping in addition to completing their secondary education and finding employment. Our program assists residents
with interpersonal relationships, accountability and follow-through. Other community agencies are brought in to provide residents
with additional classes, such as Rent Smart, Credit When Credit Is Due (a financial literacy course), parenting classes, mental
health education, etc.
How does this facility help the Community?
House of Hope provides homeless mothers and their children with a place to live, in addition
to serving as a hub for other service providers to contact them. By participating in the House of Hope
program, our residents have the opportunity to become more productive citizens, more nurturing parents and more confident
individuals.
What are the professional backgrounds of the House
of Hope staff?
Our full-time staff and many of our part time staff have degrees in the human services field and/or extensive experience
in working with at-risk families and children.
What can
I do to help House of Hope?
House of Hope relies on the kindness of this community to keep its doors open. Because of the nature of our
program, we run both an office building and a household of ten families. We appreciate any and all donations of
time, materials, services and funds.
